It's a busy week for Misha.

Friday December 11th is the opening of "Paper Pushers 2009" at Gallery 1988 S.F. 1173 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA 94109. Misha has 12 drawings in the show.

On Tuesday December 15th Misha will be part of The LOST Underground Art Project at Gallery 1988 L.A.

Misha was on of the original 8 artist who's creation debuted this past May in Hollywood. it has rapidly grown to an astounding20 pieces. In September the
San Francisco show added another 4 pieces and in October, Eden Fantasys
debuted 8 incredible new pieces – 4 from NYC artists and 4 from Philly artists.

This is a unique, one-night-only exhibit featuring limited edition
artist renditions of leading Big Beautiful Women (BBW) star April
Flores’ Voluptuous CyberSkin Love Toy. Twenty, world-renown artists
have designing one-of-a-kind creations, using plaster molds of the
April Flores toy as their canvas. Participating artists include Coop,
George Pitts, KozynDan, Erika Keck, Molly Crabapple, Mo Moussa, Eli Livingston, Small Paul, Jim Mahfood, Eric Eaton, Misha, Kime Buzzelli, Carlos Batts, Zak Smith, Dr. Carol Queen / Robert Lawrence, Brian Donnelly, Stephen Kasner, Axis, JoKa, and Joy Lessposh.

Seamus Venus painting in "17 Again" preview

The trailer for the upcoming Matthew Perry/Zac Efron/Leslie Mann movie "17 Again" reveals a pretty cool painting in the background, albeit fuzzy. It's My Metroid-themed "Seamus Venus," in Reno 911! favorite Thomas Lennon's house!!!

I'm hoping you'll see it better in the film, as well as many other Gallery 1988 familiar pieces, since I think they may make up most the walls in the Lennon character's house. Check out the movie when it comes out April 17th!

An excerpt from the MTV Movie Blog:

Another painting, by an artist known simply as Misha, was a take-off of “The Last Supper,” but with Mooby the Golden Calf at the center position, his disciples - all characters from the films of Kevin Smith - flanking him on either side.

With several paintings of Jay and Silent Bob, not to mention Smith’s other work, the “Clerks” writer was by far the most cited inspiration, (”I’d paint that too if I knew the director was coming,” Smith deadpanned.) but paintings honoring the New Jersey native were far from the only works on display. “Office Space,” “The Professional,” “Shaun of the Dead,” “Donnie Darko,” “A Christmas Story,” and “Edward Scissorhands,” were just a few of the flicks artists re-imagined in their own unique styles.

Here’s Misha talking about how she drew inspiration for “Mooby’s Last Supper:”

“I did a lot of listening to [Smith] talk, a lot of listening to podcasts, voiceovers from the actual films, stories,” she said. “It’s funny, because you’re painting Ben Affleck’s face and you’re listening to a story about him, so there are a lot of little jokes within it, wink-winks. You’ve got Rufus [the 13th Disciple], who has finally made it to the supper where he belongs. Kinky Kelly and the Sexy Stud - he brought a date - Hooper X pinching Banky’s butt, Dante and Randall, of course, overlooking Alyssa playing with her fingercuffs. Then Stan Lee. Stan Lee is God.”

Stan Lee is God, or will be soon enough at any rate - when Gallery 1988 debuts its next show in January 2008, showcasing works inspired by the comics legend.

Smith, incidentally, bought Misha’s piece…and 22 others.

And here's a picture of Zak Knutson, the donkey f*cker from "Clerks 2," pointing this himself in Misha's "Mooby's Last Supper."

It was cool to see him excited to be "immortalized" (his words) in a painting. The banging a donkey thing is just a detail.

One part sugar, one part spice, one part tattoo ink

She’s got pink hair, a face studded with metallic adornments and a chin tattoo that would make an Algonquin chief proud. But just one name: Misha.

The one-word wonder is a conspicuous presence in the L.A. art scene, having shown at high-profile, low-brow galleries like La Luz de Jesus, Project:, Thinkspace and the roving once-a-month-collective, Cannibal Flower. Balancing dual careers as a tattoo artist and painter, she’s been prepping for Gallery 1988’s “Crazy 4 Cult ” group show, which corrals L.A.’s best underground artists around the theme of cult movies. We forced her to sit still for a few minutes and chat.

How do you feel about the L.A. art scene?
I love it! I was really surprised that the art scene in L.A. was so warm and welcoming. When I first moved here, another artist told me about Cannibal Flower, so I submitted some work and they took me in. I owe a lot to Cannibal Flower for giving me the exposure that led to other shows in other galleries.

Any new inspirations lately?
Alice in Wonderland, Old 8 bit games, half-skull girls and classic horror monsters. My work has gone from looking like a tattoo, with thick outlines, to looking more like a painting. In the past my tattooing has inspired my paintings, but lately my paints have inspired my tattoos.

And you just landed a gig at the esteemed Zulu tattoo shop on Crescent Heights?
Yeah, I've always wanted to work in a shop like this. This is what I've been aiming for all along. I love the vibe.

What are you planning for the Cult Classics show at Gallery 1988?
"Our Lady of Transsexual" is a tribute to The Rocky Horror Picture Show done in the style of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Another is "Mooby's Last Supper" a take on Davinci's Last Supper, using characters from several Kevin Smith films. I love taking famous works of art and twisting them into different themes. They make me giggle.
